A music man called Mr Bright came to our school and
worked with our class. First of all he showed all the
children lots of instruments from around the world and he
played them for us. I liked it when he played the Conga
drums really fast. Then our class composed a piece of
music. We all got to choose different instruments and he
put us into different groups like metal and shakers and
scrapers and drums. We had to decide when and how to
play and we made symbols on the board to show the tune.
We called the piece of music Chinese Prayers and Mr
Bright recorded it and then we played to the rest of the
school. It sounded wonderful. We were like proper
musicians.
On a Monday our class goes over to Nelson House
to play games with the residents and talk about
what it was like in the old days. On Thursday
afternoon Betty and Maggie and Joyce come to our
school to do sewing with us. We have made puppets
and Mexican Gods Eyes and some cross stitch
pictures. I sewed a teddy and a boat and it was
really fun. We even did some French and proper
knitting. Last week we did some African weaving
using lots of brightly coloured yarns. The ladies
help us if we get stuck and they are very kind to
us.
Our steelpan group went to play with the big
pupils at Matthew Humberston School and then
their group came to play at our school during
global week. We learnt to play SuperTrouper
and the Blind Date theme tune. Their pans are
a lot bigger than ours and we had to use 2
sticks but we managed it and it sounded really
good. When we practice we use a drum machine
but this time we had a real drummer playing
with us.
